Citroën offers an innovative system to ensure traction on difficult surfaces, with little grip and on steep slopes.
The GRIP CONTROL® technology represents an advanced anti-slip system that optimizes the traction of the front wheels on any surface of the road, thus offering safety and versatility in driving. In addition, HILL ASSIST DESCENT, keeps the vehicle at reduced speed in steep incline situations, thus ensuring control of the trajectory and grip
These driver assistance functions are available as an option on some Citroën models, including the brand's range of SUVs, the C3 Aircross SUV and the C5 Aircross SUV, capable of offering true driving versatility on different surfaces.
Mobility on difficult surfaces is ensured simply by selecting the GRIP CONTROL® control. A technology that works in conjunction with the stability control of the car: ESP, which directs the braking force to the wheel with less grip, while giving more "grip" to the other. In this way, thanks to specific calibrations, greater safety on the road is guaranteed and the solution to situations in which front-wheel drive alone could not normally solve. The Grip Control® function offers 5 riding modes. It is activated automatically in Standard mode and you can manually select the others, choosing between: Sand, Mud, Snow and ESP OFF. Thanks to its various functions, GRIP CONTROL® proves to be effective in:
- Snow: instantly adapts the sliding of both driving wheels to the adhesion conditions encountered; keeping the active mode up to 80 km / h.
- Mud: allows the wheel to slide less adherent at the start, to facilitate the removal of mud and the recovery of adhesion. At the same time, the system transfers the maximum possible torque to the wheel with the most grip. Effective even on wet grass, this mode is active up to 50 km / h.
- Sand: allows a slight simultaneous sliding of the drive wheels, to make the vehicle move forward, limiting the risk of jamming. The mode remains active up to 120 km / h.
The traction characteristics of the GRIP CONTROL® are supported by an additional auxiliary system, the HILL ASSIST DESCENT, a downhill assist function that keeps the vehicle at reduced speed on steep grades greater than 5%. The system helps maintain the trajectory and reduces the risk of losing control of the vehicle when descending, both in forward and reverse gear. It can be activated with the engine running, both in motion and when stationary, and remains active up to 30 km / h. Available with both manual and automatic transmission, and helps the person driving to maintain a constant and reduced speed, the HILL ASSIST DESCENT system reduces the effort of the person driving it to control the steering wheel.
The joint action, between GRIP CONTROL® and HILL ASSIST DESCENT, provides effective assistance both in daily use and in most situations that previously could only be tackled with 4 × 4 drive. Available as an option on the Citroën C3 AIRCROSS SUV, the Citroën C5 AIRCROSS SUV and the Citroën BERLINGO, these options have a very affordable cost, and are definitely rewarded for the added value they can bring to the Citroën SUV vehicle, and that reinforces its qualities of habitability, modularity and versatility.
